MedTech News Release
PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Nov. 25, 2008 - RTEmd, an expert medical device software consulting company in Pittsford, N.Y., has partnered with Rochester of Institute Technology (RIT) to offer a new scholarship that will benefit an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in computer software at the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences (GCCIS) at RIT.
The scholarship will be awarded annually to a full-time student of at least junior standing who is interested in the field of computer software for medical devices. The annual scholarship will be awarded for at least $1,000, said Bob Ruppenthal, president of RTEmd.
RIT and RTEmd plan to offer the first scholarship in 2009.
“As a long-time supporter of the RIT community, RTEmd is proud to introduce the new computer software scholarship at RIT,” said Ruppenthal. “It is our hope that this scholarship will help develop an educated workforce that will one day help serve the needs of companies such as Real Time Enterprises and other organizations in the bioscience community in Upstate New York.”
RIT will select scholarship recipients and administer the scholarship in connection with RIT’s Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
“RIT is excited to be able to offer this new opportunity to our students,” said Jason Amore, director of development at GCCIS at RIT. “RTEmd is an amazing supporter of RIT and we are fortunate to have business partners in the area that are supportive of our academic programming and our students.”
Recipients of the scholarship will be invited to visit RTEmd’s facility and discuss current projects and activities. Recipients may also be eligible for a co-op internship opportunity at RTEmd, depending on class schedules and the organization’s needs at that time.
“RTEmd and RIT have a history of collaboration,” Ruppenthal said. “Our company has hired many RIT graduates and we appreciate the resources RIT provides. In addition, James Janicki, executive vice president of engineering and quality at RTEmd, has sat on RIT’s Industrial Advisory Board for over 10 years where he helps shape curricula for the many programs within the College of Computing and Information Sciences.” Janicki is also a master’s graduate of RIT and an active Board Member of the RIT Alumni Association.
Both RTEmd and RIT are members of MedTech, a not-for-profit trade association comprised of Upstate New York technology manufacturers, research institutions, and allied professional services and economic development organizations.
